Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Soft Focus – GTPlanet

A new selection of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available for players around the world, returning to its familiar format from much of the game’s lifetime to date.
If you’ve been playing this ranked online multiplayer mode over the past three-and-a-bit years, you’ll know what to expect: a one-make road car race in Race A, a Gr.4 sprint event for Race B, and a longer race for Gr.3 cars in Race C with some strategy involved.
The Ford Focus ST is the car for the first of the three events. Sitting below the more hardcore RS in the Mk3 Focus range, the ST is nonetheless a sporty step-up from the regular hatchback, but retains its front-wheel drive layout.
That might well come into play on the tight Autodrome Lago Maggiore Center circuit, which comprises the main pit straight and cut-throughs between turns 3-9 and back to the pit straight after the bridge. Or rather the other way round as you’ll be driving the Reverse variant. Even with Sports Medium tires, the many slow, sharp corners will be understeer city.
It’s a seven-lap race and watch out for the False Start Check on the grid; don’t move between the final light coming on and the race start, or you’ll end up with a brief torque-cut penalty and probably be collected by the cars behind you. Also take note that Driver Rating (DR) updates are back to their regular “off” setting this week.
Race B this week takes you to Fuji International Speedway and its long home straight, which means you’re going to need a Gr.4 car with some legs for the five-lap race.
While all-wheel drive cars will, predictably, dominate as usual, there’s going to be a few other options that can leverage the almost mile-long drag between the final and first turns. Whatever you choose, you’ll need Racing Medium tires installed for the race.
For Race C you’ll be heading, once again, to Interlagos in the Gr.3 cars. This is a pretty familiar combination, though this week’s 15-lap race has a mild strategic element to it.
There should be a wide range of competitive vehicles, with all cars required to use the standard Racing Hard tires. However you’ll also be required to head down the very lengthy pit lane at least once during the race.
You can do this any time between the end of lap one — don’t be tempted to sneak in off the grid if you’re starting low down — and the start of lap 15, but you won’t be required to change tires or take on fuel in the stop. Just heading in and heading right back out is enough to satisfy the mandatory stop requirement.
As both tires and fuel will last the whole race distance, it’s really up to you when you want to make the stop, but be sure that you do or you’ll end up with a one-minute penalty added to your race time. Beware of the pit lane entry and exit too, as even touching the solid lines will land you a three-second, on-track penalty each time.
Daily Races are the main ranked multiplayer events in Gran Turismo 7. Your Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR) are determined by your performances, updating at the end of each race, and these are used to set your ranking and league for the game’s flagship esports series each season.
In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to take part.
With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday, August 25.
